Men’s NonViolence Therapy Group

Our Men’s Nonviolence Therapy Group is a structured, accountability-focused program grounded in the Duluth Model and designed to support adherence to applicable Minnesota statutes and requirements governing Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs (Batterer Intervention Programs).

The program places accountability, personal responsibility, and meaningful behavioral change at the forefront. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other therapeutic modalities, participants develop practical skills to better understand and regulate emotions, recognize patterns of harmful behavior, increase empathy, improve communication, and take responsibility for the impact of their choices.

Program Structure

Individual counseling is integrated into the treatment process to provide additional mental health support and address individual needs that may affect a participant’s ability to engage in meaningful behavioral change. Individual services may focus on emotional regulation, coping skills, trauma-related concerns, cognitive and behavioral patterns, interpersonal functioning, and other clinically relevant needs while maintaining the program’s focus on accountability and nonviolence.

Participants typically complete the program over 18–24 weeks. The group meets weekly for one hour, and participants are expected to attend weekly individual counseling appointments. Each participant must complete a total of 36 hours of programming, including group and individual services, as required by the program. Group and individual sessions may be accessed through telehealth when approved by the participant’s probation officer or supervising authority and when the participant is physically located in Minnesota.

Cost and Payment

Services may be billed to applicable health insurance. For participants who do not use insurance or whose services are not covered, fees are available on a sliding scale based on individual ability to pay. Financial considerations are addressed with participants as part of the intake process.
